The major portion of the project consisted of a new building for grit collection and screening.  The project also included other minor improvements throughout the plant such as new supernatant pumping, a new meter vault, and miscellaneous underground pipe. The main level of the building housed grit classifying equipment along with HVAC and electrical equipment and provided storage.  All of the water carrying grit collection and screening channels of the building were elevated to the second level.  A masonry and brick building was installed on top of the second level to enclose all of the equipment on the second level.  The project provided unique challenges to the Project Team with respect to building water-tight channels and tanks elevated above the ground.

The project was bid in fall of 2009 and was Substantially Complete in May of 2011.  The project was designed by Jones & Henry Engineers. Concrete material was provided by Prairie Materials and testing services were provided by Alt & Witzig Engineering.
